Mulled Cider

1 cup apple cider
dash of Angostura bitters
3 cloves
cinnamon stick
twist of lemon peel
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
pinch of allspice
1 1/2 ounces rum or apple brandy

Combine all ingredients, except liquor, in a small saucepan. Heat until very warm, but do not allow to boil. Strain into a mug. Add a shot or two of rum or apple brandy, if desired.

Makes 1 serving.
